As the winter is truly here now and so many people are complaining of cough’s, colds and chest infections so early in the season, we really need to boost our immune system the best we can.  Here are 2 supplements I recommend taking also some natural remedies to help boost our immune system naturally.

  1. Colostrum C. Contains Bovine Colostrum 300mg and Vitamin C 20mg. Bovine Colostrum is full of antibodies which protect and boost our immune system. Helps fights infections like coughs, colds, flu & chest infections. Improves gut health so is great for people who suffer from Crohn’s, Colitis and IBS. As Colostrum stimulates new cell & tissue growth it is great for anybody after surgery or after giving birth (only if not breastfeeding).  Helps repair skin, muscle and other tissues. The dosage is 1-2 tablets before food and if sick you can take 2 in morning & 3 in evening. Not suitable if lactose intolerant, vegan, pregnant or breastfeeding.
  2. Vitamin C Plus. Contains 1000mg of Vitamin C with no added sugar. It strengthens our immune system so helps fight infections. It is a natural antihistamine and breaks down in the gut in 15minutes. Is very good for smokers as you loose 100mg of Vitamin C with every cigarette. No contraindications and is gluten free. Dosage is 1-3 tablets daily with food.

Other natural remedies,  2 cups of Pukka Echinacea and Elderberry herbal tea daily will boost your immune system and if you have a flu can reduce it by 2-3 days. Echinacea boosts our immune system by increasing the number of white blood cells so it can fight infection. Elderberry is full of antioxidants and vitamins that boost your immune system and has antiviral properties.

Local Irish honey especially heather honey contains the same health benefits as manuka honey and is a lot cheaper. Honey is full of antioxidant, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties so if that is combined with Lemon (full of Vitamin C – fights infection) and Ginger (is diaphoretic – promotes sweating working to warm the body from within) it really is a brilliant drink to naturally boost your immune system & help reduce infections. I would cut a slice of Ginger & Lemon add a teaspoon of Irish honey in a mug of hot water and let it brew for a few minutes then sip that during the day. Ginger is also very good for painful periods as it is anti-inflammatory so just put 1 slice in a mug of hot water.
